Considering all the positive angles we have for this new skatepark in Euxton its becoming difficult to gain new members into the Forum, with most people thinking they have done their part by joining the groups on facebook and myspace... so i think a push in the right direction is in order to boost the numbers on the forum.

Also Gravity's developments? when can we receive word?
I understand ive been absent at the majority of meetings.. but

VIVA LA ESP!!!

Hi

The Parish Council is to submit a planning application this month. Later this month the Council committee will meet to discuss the progress of the project and anything which needs to be done.

PostSubject: Support needed for planning application   Any News?? I_icon_minitimeThu Mar 25, 2010 8:12 am

The Parish Council has the skatepark application in with Planning at the moment. There has been some objections to the application - but at the moment very few letters of support.

If you support the application could you write a note (email is fine) to the following emails, and include the reference line as below:

TO: dcon@chorley.gov.uk, nicola.hopkins@chorley.gov.uk

Subject Line: Application number 10/00136/FUL Creation of a public outdoor leisure skate park facility

Letters of support are always more 'valued' if they are individual and not looking like a petition so, if some of you could send in a letter of support for the application from yourself it would make a difference.

This is the biggest hurdle getting planning permission, as without this the project cannot continue.

Here's what I wrote. Get your letter in quick the meeting is tomorrow!

I am writing in support of Application number 10/00136/FUL Creation of a public outdoor leisure skate park facility.

Being an experienced skateboarder and having visited many skateparks across the UK and Europe and having been involved in the planning and design of the proposed skatepark from the beginning I believe that for the following reasons, the creation of the skatepark will be a purely positive move with little or no negative impact on Euxton and local residents.

1. The skatepark has been designed and will be built to an extremely high standard by a specialist company with an excellent reputation that has provided many world class facilities throughout the UK. Maverick skateparks are highly regarded amongst skatepark users, including professional riders, and all parks built by them have a high level of use.

All the other skateparks in the area are of very poor quality and are almost universally considered to be a 'joke' by serious riders and are generally shunned by most potential users. As a result, these skateparks become magnets for who have no interest in using the facilities and treat them as a spot to hang out causing trouble, intimidating potential users and damaging the equipment.

Due to the high level of use of a well designed and constructed facility, anti social behaviour would not be a problem as legitimate users would be the vast majority and would discourage undesirable elements from congregating in the area. People who are there to use the skatepark will not cause trouble as they are there purely to use the facility. The site already contains a 'youth shelter' which as far as I know has not led to an increased incidence of anti social behaviour in the area. However this is far enough away from the skatepark site to prevent issues between the two groups.

2. There are no other comparable high quality skateparks in the area. The nearest are in Runcorn and Clitheroe. So there is a general need for this facility.

3. The site chosen is the most suitable in the area. It is not directly adjacent to any houses and can be accessed safely.

4. Being of concrete construction, noise levels will be very low. Unlike the metal framed skateparks in the area which produce much more noise due to the hollow box construction of the equipment. Studies have shown that the noise level at 50m from a concrete skatepark is as little as 45bB, the level of a normal conversation.

5. The skatepark is well designed and will be visually acceptable. Most of the park will be sunk below ground level and will have little visual impact. Especially from the road as it will be totally hidden by a hedge. It is not overlooked directly by any nearby homes.

6. The local community policing team support the proposals and have been closely involved with the project from the start. They have undertaken to patrol the area and ensure that it is trouble free.

7. Parking and transport links to the site are more than adequate.

8. The issue of drainage has been looked into carefully by the designers and we are assured that there will be no problem.

9. Being of concrete construction, maintenance costs will be extremely minimal for the foreseeable future. There are concrete parks in the UK that have been in use since the late 1970s without major maintenance work.

10. The skatepark will be a superb sports facility and encourage local children and youths who do not already participate to take up skateboarding, roller blading or BMX riding which provide excellent physical exercise.

11. Currently, young people who do participate in these sports generally use areas which are not designed for this use (EG supermarket car parks, streets and other public areas) which are potentially unsafe and can lead to the causing nuisance to the general public. The skatepark will provide a facility to practice their skills safely.

12. skateboarding, roller blading and BMX riding are serious international sports with millions of participants around the world. Many riders are full time professionals with lucrative sponsorship deals from equipment, clothing and shoe manufacturers. For riders to get to this level, it is essential for them to have suitable facilities to practice. Up until now, local riders have not had the opportunity to reach this level due the the lack of good skateparks in the area.

I haven't heard anything about this. Is it being built right now or is it just being planned?

I had a look yesterday. It's a playground, definitely not a skatepark.

I was a MAS member for a long time. No more though.

No need for a letter, the planning application has been passed. There should be a meeting soon to organise raising some more money.
